Despre Corneliu M. Popescu...

Corneliu M Popescu s-a născut la Bucureşti, România, pe 16 mai 1958. In anii de liceu, se face remarcat printr-un deosebit simţ poetic şi prin traducerile vizionare din Mihai Eminescu în limba engleză.

Incetează din viaţă tragic şi foarte tînăr, împreună cu mama sa, la cutremurul catastrofal din 4 martie 1977.

Este laureat post-mortem al premiului Academiei Române pentru lucrarea sa "Mihai Eminescu, Poems", publicată în 1978 la Editura Eminescu.

The Poetry Society at National Poetry Centre din Londra instituie, în 1983, "The European Poetry Translation Prize in memory of Corneliu M. Popescu". Din 1987, premiul se acordă împreună cu British Council.

Corneliu M. Popescu was born in Bucharest, Romania, on May 16th, 1958. During his highschool years, he was brought out by an extraordinary sense of the poetry and by his visionary translations into English of the poems of Mihai Eminescu, the biggest Romanian writer.

Passed away tragically and very young together with his mother in the catastrophic earthquake of March 4, 1977.

He was awarded with the post-mortem prize of the Romanian Academy for the work "Mihei Eminescu, Poems", published in 1978 by the Eminescu Publishing House.

The Poetry Society at National Poetry Centre in London, initiated in May 1983 "The European Poetry Translation Prize in memory of Corneliu M. Popescu". Since 1987 the prize has been awarded together with British Council.
